Meeting Maryland fans once again

Shay Doron after the game against Washington

On August 3rd, the Washington Mystics hosted the New York Liberty for one of the last games of the season, as Maryland's Shay Doron returned to the DC area for the first time since the end of her collegiate career. There was a very visible red-shirted Maryland presence in the Verizon Center, including several of Shay's former Maryland teammates and almost the entire Terps' coaching staff. After the game, Shay spent time with her fans answering questions and signing autographs.

On June 13th, Shay was the invited guest speaker at the Manhattan JCC, in conjunction with Fastbreak. The event, which was organized by the NY Liberty and the JCC as part of Jewish American Heritage Month, drew kids from the 1st through 7th grades and their parents, who listened to a special presentation by Shay. As always, Shay happily signed autographs and provided some basketball tips for her fans.

Community Involvement and Guest Appearances

Shay Doron is committed to her fans and to making a difference in the community. She embraces the opportunity to be a positive role model for kids, who are often among the first to greet her on court after games.

Shay has also embraced her role as Israel's unofficial basketball ambassador. She is a hero in the Jewish community, and relishes every opportunity to speak about her experiences, her family, and her country. Inducted into the Greater Washington Jewish Community Center Sports Hall of Fame last year, she has been a role model to young Jewish athletes and children in the US and in Israel, speaking at various schools and teams.
